Wed. 11/18/09 12:58pm From: Cecile

Shelter from the Ash is really, really worth pledging for.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:10pm From: LizGig

Hi Maria and Doug! I pledged earlier, but when I went to the shop I was inspired to buy a scratch card. If I win over 20 euro, I'll split it with you. Stay tuned.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:29pm From: LizGig

Alas, no. The National Lottery did not grace me with riches. I really thought I'd get lucky and win something! But it sounds like the marathon is going well. Life would be far poorer without WFMU.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:38pm From: Jim frm B-Burg

We are listening and loving, Maria! Thanks for the show..Hey everyone lets support a good thing.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:41pm From: Jackie ny-ca

I just pledged online. I hope you got it. I had to answer the phone here at work so I didn't hear if you said. I love your show, Maria. I really love your show and blog, Doug.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:42pm From: north guinea hills

If all goes well, and I prevail w/ my health insurance snafu, i'll be able to pledge by the end of the week. if not, i'm going to be a poor guinea hills.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:49pm From: ?

p.s., it's "la-lay-nya", like the Donovan song.

Wed. 11/18/09 1:56pm From: Chris

Thanks, Maria.. would love that NoW CD :-) As always, I am captivated by your show. You provide the fuel for my creativity... muchas gracias!

Wed. 11/18/09 2:07pm From: Cecile

Early Hall and Oates and some of their weirder stuff is a lot like their buddy Todd Rundgren

Wed. 11/18/09 2:11pm From: LizGig

Hall and Oates are buddies with Todd Rundgren? That's as peculiar sounding as Iggy Pop playing golf.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:12pm From: ?

they're all from Philly . . .

Wed. 11/18/09 2:13pm From: Cecile

They're only about 4-5 years younger than Todd. They all grew up in Philly listening to the same stuff. The last couple of times, they've toured together.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:16pm From: LizGig

You know, I'd like to see that sort of double bill. It's like...well, it's like playing Todd Rundgren and Hall and Oates back to back. Contrasting. But perhaps Rundgren has done some soulful radio-friendly stuff I'm not familiar with.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:18pm From: Carmichael

On Todd's album Back to the Bars, Hall and Oates (along with about a hundred other people) play in the band.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:30pm From: Cecile

He has. He's done covers of Spinners songs, the soul medly on A Wizard, A True Star.

Even things like Can We Still Be Friends and Hello It's Me are very soulful in their way.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:32pm From: Cecile

I don't think they're so much contrasting as they sit alongside each other like a couple of those pie wedges in a Trivial Pursuit game piece.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:34pm From: Cecile

Here's a news story about Daryl Hall and Todd singing soul on on an episode of Hall's show: Live at Daryl's House.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:34pm From: LizGig

That is a far superior analogy to my struggle with words, Cecile! I must put Todd Rundgren on my to-listen-to list and learn more.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:36pm From: Carmichael

The Hermit of Mink Hollow is a perfect example of his diversity. "You Cried Wolf" could have been played on any Motown-oriented station.

Didn't Billy Ocean do a cover of "Love is the Answer"?

Wed. 11/18/09 2:36pm From: Cecile

It is an often exasperating process, as Todd is capricious and indulgent. His fans are brutally honest about his whims, but he's done more than enough great stuff to forgive him some scary stuff.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:38pm From: Looms (Fr)

There are so many great shows on WFMU i couldn't say which is my favourite. BUT i disvovered the station through Dan Bodah's Airborne Event (a beautiful schedule for european listeners), and became immediatly a regular listener.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:47pm From: Looms (Fr)

And, Maria, i do love your show!

Wed. 11/18/09 2:48pm From: Cecile

Carm, I can't find any record of BIlly Ocean doing that song.

Wed. 11/18/09 2:50pm From: Jim frm B-Burg

HEY JAMES!

Wed. 11/18/09 2:55pm From: Kristina

Great show!!! i will be tuning in again!
